Guide for authors

General Provisions

            The scientific and practical journal "Vestnik KazNMU" accepts only original articles and systematic reviews for publication.

            Original articles must be prepared using the IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) structure in accordance with the International Medical Journal Editors' Guidelines (ICMJE). Details are available on the official website:https://www.icmje.org/recommendations/).

            Systematic reviews must comply with the international PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) standard. More details:https://www.prisma-statement.org/.

            Other types of materials (literature reviews without systematic analysis, clinical case reports, short reports, editorials, etc.) are not considered.

            All manuscripts undergo mandatory double-blind peer review. If any doubts arise regarding the accuracy of statistical processing, the editors reserve the right to request the original data.

            The editors also reserve the right to make editorial changes to the text that do not alter the meaning of the article.

            Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will not be considered by the journal's editorial board.

Submitting a manuscript

            Manuscripts are accepted only through the electronic article submission portal on the journal’s website: https://vestnik.kaznmu.edu.kz/. To do this, the author must register and log into the system using a username and password. Manuscripts are uploaded in MS Word format along with tables, figures, and their captions, in accordance with the journal’s requirements. When submitting a manuscript through the electronic submission portal, the author must also upload the signed forms “Cover Letter” and “Copyright Transfer Form”.

             In case of technical issues during submission, please contact the editorial office by email: vestnikkaznmu@kaznmu.kz.
            To simplify the manuscript preparation process, authors may use article templates developed by the journal’s editorial board. The templates are available in three languages - Kazakh, Russian, and English - and contain all necessary stylistic and structural elements corresponding to the journal’s requirements. Template files are available on the official journal website https://vestnik.kaznmu.edu.kz/ in the section “For Authors” → “Documents for Download”.

            Before preparing and submitting a manuscript, authors are advised to familiarize themselves with international standards for reporting results of various types of studies:

  • CONSORT for randomized controlled trials;
  • STARD for diagnostic accuracy studies;
  • STROBE for observational studies;
  • MOOSE for meta-analyses of observational studies;
  • PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses;
  • ARRIVE for animal studies;
  • other relevant reporting standards listed by the EQUATOR Network.

Requirements for Manuscript Formatting
•     The manuscript text must be in Microsoft Word format, using Times New Roman font, size 12 pt, with 1.0 line spacing.
•      Page orientation – portrait. Margins on all sides – 2.5 cm.

Article Structure

          Title Page

  1. Title of the article (no more than 180 characters, abbreviations are not allowed).
  2. Authors’ last names and initials.
  3. Names of the institutions to which the authors belong. Affiliations are indicated with superscript indices.

Abstract and Keywords

            The abstract should be presented in Russian, Kazakh, and English (up to 300 words). For original articles and systematic reviews, the abstract must be structured and include the following sections:

             • Introduction
            • Aim
            • Materials and Methods
            • Results
            • Conclusion

            Key words: 5–6 terms according to MeSH (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/), separated by commas.

Introduction

            Briefly indicate the relevance and significance of the topic, what is already known in the scientific literature on the subject, and identify existing knowledge gaps that the authors intend to fill in their work. The text of the “Introduction” section should convincingly justify the necessity of the study. The section should end with the statement of the study’s aim and objectives. Ideally, this section should not exceed one page of typed text.

 Materials and Methods

• Type of study (experimental, observational, systematic review, etc.).
• Study participants, inclusion and exclusion criteria.
• Measurement methods, equipment, medications with indication of dosages and manufacturers.
• Ethical aspects (approval by the ethics committee, compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki, etc.).
• Methods of statistical data analysis (must indicate software, versions, and statistical tests used).

Results

            Present only the main results of the study in a logical sequence. Use of tables and figures is recommended. It is unnecessary to reproduce all numerical data given in tables and illustrations in the text. Focus on the key findings and the most significant patterns. The text must include information on all primary and secondary outcomes defined in the “Materials and Methods” section.

Discussion

            Interpretation of the obtained data, comparison with the results of other studies, strengths and limitations of the work, and prospects for future research.

          Conclusion

            A concise summary of the main results in accordance with the stated objectives.

Conflict of interest

            In this section, authors declare the presence or absence of potential or actual conflicts of interest. These include financial relationships, organizational affiliations, consultancies, patents, sponsorships, and any other factors that may influence the interpretation of the results. If there is no conflict of interest, the following statement should be written: "The authors declare no conflict of interest".

 Authors' contributions

            Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the work. Each author should indicate their role, for example:

Concept, XX and YY; methodology, XX; software, XX; validation, XX, YY, and ZZ; formal analysis, XX; investigation, XX; resources, XX; data management, XX; writing - original manuscript preparation, XX; writing - review and editing, XX; visualization, XX; supervision, XX; project administration, XX; funding acquisition, YY.

            At the end of the section you must indicate:
"All authors have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript. The authors declare that this material has not been previously published and is not under consideration by other publishers".

Funding

            This section lists the sources of funding for the study: grants, programs, projects, sponsorships. The grant number (if available), organization name, and country must be included. If no funding was provided, write "The study was not funded".

 Data availability statement

            All manuscripts should include a Data availability statement describing the availability of data supporting the results reported in the article. Where applicable, authors should provide information on where the data can be accessed, including links to publicly archived datasets. If no new data were generated or if data sharing is not applicable to the study (e.g., narrative reviews, systematic reviews based solely on published literature), authors should indicate this by stating “Not applicable” or providing an appropriate explanation.

Acknowledgments

            This section acknowledges individuals or organizations that contributed to the study but are not co-authors. For example: consulting assistance, technical support, assistance with data collection. If no acknowledgements are provided, this section may be omitted.
